There are many different ways to hold space with Gratitude Blooming. We encourage you to make it your own.
To begin.
Why gratitude? And why nature?
Nature reminds us that change is constant. Day turns into night. Seeds bloom. Compost makes room for new growth. As humans, however, what is not constant is the pace at which we adapt to change. The brain has a biological bias to see the negative. This bias can lead to getting stuck in a rut. Ruts are habits. Practice disrupts habit.
Gratitude is a social emotion. It’s something you can feel. And something you can share. When practiced with others in teams or groups, it can shift organizational culture. Culture is what we practice together. Gratitude disrupts the brain’s negative bias. It helps you build your emotional intelligence. It creates healthier patterns and ways for us to show up in the world.
This is a living toolkit. It will evolve based on what we are learning and hearing from you. Please let us know what is working and how these tools can be improved to fit your personal practice, team and community.
Cheers,
Belinda and Omar

Build consistency
What we have found over the years is that consistency of the practice is critical. You’ll notice a shift more quickly in your culture when you practice for 10 minutes daily or weekly versus a longer experience once a month or less. Get creative with plugging these practices into an existing time like a standing meeting. Check out our team building exercises for short practices you can do regularly.
Start simple
The Gratitude Blooming card deck creates a third object to facilitate group connection and storytelling through the plant, illustration, theme and prompt. You may want to begin with a simple word association game if your group is new to this kind of mindfulness tool and practice. For the word association, have each person pick a different card and share what immediately arises from looking at the plant and corresponding theme. This helps to break the ice when you’re practicing together for the first time.
For round two, you can invite people to word associate with the same card and notice how they connect and build around it.
